Honoring Indigenous People

Celebrations to honor Christopher Columbus have been occurring in this country since 1792. Not until 500 years after Columbus’ arrival to this continent was an alternative holiday, Indigenous Peoples Day, first celebrated in Berkley, California. Today, we focus our attention on the descendants of those who were here long before Columbus was born as we honor the indigenous people of the land we now live on.
