We will be showing a recording of Rev. Dr. Daniel Kanter’s deeply personal and timely sermon that reflects on his immigrant grandfather’s Fourth of July legacy, the meaning of patriotism, and the painful divisions facing our country today. With honesty and hope, he challenges us to reclaim grace, kindness, and courage as we work to live into America’s highest ideals—justice, mercy, and unity—even amid disagreement and loss.
Rev. Dr. Daniel C. Kanter is the Senior Minister and CEO of First Unitarian Church of Dallas and author of Faith for the Unbeliever (2017). He has held numerous leadership roles within the Unitarian Universalist movement and broader interfaith and justice communities, including with Planned Parenthood, Faith Forward Dallas, and the UUA. A former Harvard Divinity School Fellow, he holds degrees from the University of Vermont, Starr King School for the Ministry, and SMU. Daniel lives in East Dallas with his family and enjoys cycling and time at White Rock Lake when not leading, preaching, and envisioning the future of his congregation.
