Everyday Enlightenment

We UU’s look to the eighteenth century “Enlightenment,” and the birth of the age of reason for many of our UU roots. However, “enlightenment” has other faces, other meanings and other sources. It was Elizabeth Dodson Gray’s “Sacred Dimensions of Women’s Experience” and the writings of Thich Nhat Hahn that validated my personal experience that everyday chores and mundane tasks can be accomplished in a spiritually satisfying and enlightening manner. In this era of great challenge, distress and confusion let’s spend this midsummer hour exploring and appreciating an enlightenment that is accessible each day.

Rev. Lyn Stangland Cameron is a recently retired UU minister and lives in Idaho Falls.
