Many people do not realize the extent to which gender stereotypes negatively affect everyone in our culture, not just those who identify as non-binary, transgender, gender nonconforming, etc. (though they are arguably the most impacted). This service will be interactive and will give UUFB members and friends the opportunity to share stories around how the “rules” of gender have affected them, as well ideas for how to challenge these rules in a world where rigid stereotypes are imposed upon us all, even babies who have not yet been born.
In 2018, Cami Armijo-Grover, Bridgercare’s Education Director, had the distinct pleasure of working closely with medical providers and members of LGBTQ+ communities to create and facilitate a training on how to provide affirming healthcare to LGBTQ+ patients. In the subsequent six years, two more trainings have been developed for youth-serving professionals and the general public, and Cami (along with her fierce and loving kiddo, Lucy) became members of UUFB after being invited to present as the recipient of a Second Sunday donation in 2019.
