Many of the issues swirling in American public discourse today demand moral reflection and call for religious witness. But the loudest religious perspective on the current scene can often be the narrowest. Our common discourse, therefore, needs the balance and inclusion provided by Unitarian Universalists and other religious liberals. As members of a faith tradition that values the inherent worth and dignity of every person; justice, equity and compassion; the right of conscience and the democratic process—in short, all seven of our UU principles—we must be willing to publicly speak our own prophetic witness.
