Inherent Worth and Dignity

“Respect for the inherent worth and dignity of every person” is the first of our Seven Principles. When someone asks, “What do Unitarian Universalists believe?” the corresponding reply frequently includes the concept that every person possesses inherent worth and dignity. The concept in this Principle sounds great, but what does it take to have our actions and words manifest the value this Principle sets forth?
