The Unitarian transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson is reputed to have written, “Life is a journey, not a destination.” But those exact words are not found in his works. What we know he did write is this: “To finish the moment, to find the journey’s end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom.” A journey is filled with points, steps or events along the way. In a car trip children ask the question, “Are we there yet?” Maybe the point is the journey more than it is the “there”. Yet the destinations are an important part of every life journey. UUFB is on a journey, filled with change, marked by the need to navigate transitions. I am on a journey too. Today, we honor your and my journeys and especially the points of the journeys that you and I have shared. This is an important turning point as we come to a parting of our ways.
