The Right of Conscience

The first portion of our Fifth Principle lifts up the “right of conscience.” There are echoes here of well-known Unitarians such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. But what is meant by the right of conscience? And lest we not abuse this right, when and how shall we act on it in ways that are both fitting and beneficial to ourselves and others?
